TOUR#1 KEVIN PERKINS WORKSHOP, Franklin

Kevin Perkins (Churchill Fellow 1982) is a furniture designer/maker who takes inspiration in conservation issues and a sense of place elicited by the history, traditions, forests and wildlife of Tasmania. Kevin has exhibited nationally and internationally.

Collections include:

  • the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra
  • Tasmanian Wood Design Collection, Launceston
  • Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery,  Hobart

 

TOUR#2 Scenic kunyani/Mt Wellington

A visit to Hobart remains incomplete without taking an opportunity to enjoy the imposing ambience and scenery provided by a visit to iconic Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. This excursion, conducted by Louise Gilfedder OAM (Churchill Fellow 2006) and Phil Watson (Churchill Fellow 1998), aims to immerse participants in the Mountain’s natural wonders framed by the sub alpine forest and sheer dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes.

 

TOUR#3 Eating for Health

A walking tour of Hobart's Botanical Gardens with Hazel MacTavish-West (Churchill Fellow 2017) and Ngaire Hobbins (accredited practising dietitian and author) - tour departs Hotel Grand Chancellor for a gentle 30min stroll to the gardens. 

 

TOUR#4 COMA Tasmania, Jane Franklin Hall

Dr Philip Thomson (Churchill Fellow 1995) travelled overseas to the US and UK to study medical history and pharmacy displays at significant museums, visiting over 50 Medical History Museums including The Smithsonian in Washington DC. COMA (Collection of Medical Artefacts) is Dr Thomson's brainchild - containing a range of historical medical instruments, equipment, gadgets and paraphernalia used to treat Tasmanians from the 1840's until now.

  

 
Bruny Island Cheese Co. is an artisan cheese maker in southern Tasmania, founded by Nick Haddow (Churchill Fellow 2012). All cheeses are made and matured using traditional techniques and are some of the finest artisan cheeses made in Australia.  Join Nick for an indepth study of his cheesemaking, enjoy a tasting and ample chance to ask questions.  **This same session will be presented during the convention concurrent sessions on Saturday.
 
 

  WORKSHOP#6 Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery

Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery Tasmanian Aboriginal Exhibition - just a short stroll from the conference venue. Tour conducted by Senior Curator of Indigenous Cultures, Zoe Rimmer (Churchill Fellow 2013).
 
 

WORKSHOP#7 The Fabric of Botany

Art and fabric design from early French herbarium collections from Tasmania. Deborah Wace (Churchill Fellow 2017) will illustrate and illuminate  on how a botanical artist, fabric designer and printmaker here in Tasmania develops her original works.

Dinner Only - includes attendance at convention diner - Saturday 6th April 2019 - only. For delegate partners and guests

 

Ticket Refund/Transfer Policy

Please note that cancellation of tickets including refunds can only be processed up until Friday 8th March 2019 . Following this date no refunds are available. Tickets of same or equal value can be transferred to another person to attend the same session or event by Friday 22nd March 2019 . No transfers can be made after this date.

 

Convention Registration Times

Registration times to collect Welcome Pack and other relevant materials will be at the Convention Venue, Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart.are as follows:

  • Friday 5th April 2019 1:00pm-2:00pm or 5:00 - 5:30pm
  • Saturday 6th April 2019 8:00am - 9:00am
